VERMILLION, S.D. | Trey Burch-Manning was hot in the first half while Matt Mooney shined in the second half for South Dakota’s men’s basketball team in Wednesday night’s 62-50 Summit League victory over Western Illinois at the Sanford Coyote Sports Center.
Manning’s 10 points and 11 rebounds in the Coyotes’ third straight victory included seven points in an 11-2 run after Coach Craig Smith’s squad snapped an 8-8 tie. Mooney tallied 11 of his team-high 14 points in the second half.
South Dakota (14-4, 2-0 Summit) also received 10 points and six rebounds off the bench from Nick Fuller. Now 8-0 at its home court, the winners prevailed, despite shooting 33 percent from the field.
Kobe Webster paced Western Illinois (8-5, 0-1) with 19 points.
