VERMILLION, S.D. | South Dakota opened up a 12-point halftime lead and earned an 82-71 victory over Denver to open Summit League play here Saturday.

The Coyotes hit 15 of 26 shots in the first half and went 27 of 37 at the free throw line in the game.

USD was paced by Matt Mooney's 20 points, Triston Simpson had 17 and Tyler Peterson added 13. Tyler Hagedorn also reached double figures with 11 points.

Denver, which was just 9 of 12 at the charity stripe, got 17 points from Daniel Amigo, 14 from Jake Pemberton and 12 each from Ade Murkey and Joe Rosga.

South Dakota is now 13-4 overall and Denver is 6-9.
