BOWLING GREEN, Ohio | Matt Mooney scored 22 of his game-high 26 points in the second half while carrying South Dakota’s men’s basketball team to an 88-79 win over Bowling Green Monday night at the Stroh Center.
Mooney, in the second half, canned 7 of 9 field goal tries, which included just one miss in five 3-point attempts. Overall, South Dakota (2-0) shot 57.5 percent in the game’s final 20 minutes.
Eleven of Tyler Hagedorn’s 15 points for the Coyotes came in the second half. Carlton Hurst added 14 points and nine rebounds.
South Dakota rallied from a 53-48 second-half deficit to take a 54-53 lead, highlighted by Hagedorn’s free throw to complete a three-point play after he was fouled while hitting a layup with 9:12 left in the game.
Hagedorn later made a 3-pointer for a 59-57 lead and from there, the Coyotes never trailed.
South Dakota will continue its road trip Wednesday at Fort Worth, Texas, facing TCU.
