BRIEFLY: South Dakota makes its fourth straight appearance in the WNIT and its eighth consecutive trip to the postseason, while Houston is playing in the postseason for the first time in seven seasons. The Coyotes earned the Summit League’s automatic bid after becoming the first undefeated regular season champion since 1994. USD is led by first team All-Summit League honorees Ciara Duffy and Allison Arens, each averaging 11 points per game and boasted the league’s best defense has scored 18.6 points per game off turnovers and USD has had nine different leading scorers in games this season.
Houston received an at-large berth after finishing fifth in the American Athletic Conference. The Cougars played NCAA Tournament top-six seeds UConn and South Florida in regular season conference matchups. Houston averaged 74 points per game and is paced by second team All-American guard Jasmyne Harris with 19.6 points per game and third team All-American Angela Harris at 14.9 points per contest. The Cougars have appeared in five NCAA Tournaments (last in 2011) and this marks their fifth WNIT.
