AKRON, Iowa -- Jaden Harris scored 11 points and Lily Kenny tossed in 10 as the Akron-Westfield girls basketball team improved to 17-5 with a 47-29 win over Trinity Christian to open Class 1A regional play.

Shayna De Roon led Trinity Christian (2-20) with 12 points.

The Westerners will host Le Mars Gehlen on Tuesday.

MMCRU 65, REMSEN ST. MARY'S 30: MMCRU opened up regional play with a convincing victory over Remsen St. Mary's to advance to the quarterfinals in Class 1A Region 1 against fifth-ranked Kingsley-Pierson on Thursday.

Madison Treinen led the Royals with 17 points and Haley Schwarz added 11 points.

Remsen St. Mary's was paced by Lexi Harpenau's 11 and Sydney Schorg added 10

MMCRU improves to 11-11 on the season and the Hawks end their season at 3-19.

WEST MONONA 72, WOODBINE 36: Mallory McCall scored 23 points for West Monona in a win over Woodbine in a nonconference game on Thursday in Onawa.

Lexi Lander finished with 12 points for West Monona (15-6).

Hope Sherer had 19 points for Woodbine (2-19).

Nebraska

CROFTON 55, NORFOLK CATHOLIC 38: Josie Sparks scored 20 points and Lacey Sprakel added 14 to lead the Warriors to a girls basketball win over the Knights in a game played in Norfolk, Nebraska Thursday. Jordan Peitz scored 13 points to lead Norfolk Catholic.

Boys

LAWTON-BRONSON 58, ELK POINT-JEFFERSON 56: Devin Johnson scored 21 points and hit the game-winning shot at the buzzer as the Lawton-Bronson boys basketball team edged out Elk Point-Jefferson 58-56 on Thursday in Lawton.

Ethan Heiss finished with 11 points for Lawton-Bronson (10-11), which made 9 of 18 3-pointers in the contest.

Presston Kollbaum had 24 points for EP-J (8-8).

Alex Grashoff grabbed an offensive rebound and scored on a put back for EP-J to tie the game at 56-all with 15 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Max Fluent missed a 3-pointer for Lawton-Bronson. Johnson grabbed the offensive rebound with less than a second left on the clock and scored as time expired to end the game.

SIOUX FALLS CHRISTIAN 70, WESTERN CHRISTIAN 67: Mitchell Goodbary scored 22 points as the No. 1 (A) Sioux Falls Christian boys basketball team downed top-ranked (2A) Western Christian 70-67 on Thursday in Hull.

Will Garnaas finished with 15 points for Sioux Falls Christian (16-0). Koln Oppold and Gavin Schipper both had 13 points.

Jacob Vis scored 17 points for Western Christian (19-2). Ben Granstra and Caleb Harmsen both finished with 14 points.

With the game tied at 65-all late, Goodbary was fouled while making a shot. After making the free throw to give Sioux Falls Christian a 68-65 lead, Goodbary had a steal and was fouled again. He made both free throws to extend the lead to 70-65.

With Western Christian trailing 70-67, the Wolfpack missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer with four seconds left.

UNDERWOOD 66, MVAOCOU 61: Jacob Privia scored 17 points as the Underwood boys basketball team defeated MVAOCOU 66-61 in overtime on Thursday in Mapleton.

Jalen Humphrey finished with 14 points for Underwood (14-8) and Thomas Conn added 13.

Ely Fundermann scored 21 points for the Rams (12-8). Colby Seuntjens had 15 points and Connor Beeck added 11.

Nebraska

PENDER 65, EMERSON-HUBBARD 39: Sam Mailloux scored 22 points for Pender in a win over Emerson-Hubbard on Thursday in Emerson.

Tyler Nelson finished with 14 points for Pender (9-13) and Chris Rutar added 11.

Spencer Burcham had 10 points for Emerson-Hubbard (1-20).

Wednesday

Boys

PONCA 64, WINNEBAGO 59: Ponca won the grudge match with Winnebago on Wednesday night to claim the Lewis and Clark Conference Championship. The two teams had split the first two meetings with Ponca winning 60-58 and Winnebago won the rematch 52-50.

Max Masin had 23 points on 7 of 12 shooting while Carter Kingsbury added 18 for C1's top-ranked team. Logan Kingsbury added 10 points.

Ponca held an 11-5 lead after one quarter and was up 26-18 at halftime over C2 No. 2 Winnebago.

The Ponca girls also won the conference title with a 26-13 victory over Randolph.
