Buena Vista has three IIAC baseball picks
STORM LAKE, Iowa | Buena Vista outfielder Peyton Renning and utility player Nick Henrichs each won first-team Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference baseball honors on the All-IIAC baseball team selected Wednesday.
Renning batted safely in 16 of the Beavers’ 22 Iowa Conference games, batting .381 while driving in 22 runs. He had multiple hits in four of the last five games for Buena Vista, which went 15-24 this season and 10-12 in the IIAC.
Henrichs appeared in 16 games on the pitcher’s mound, primarily as a reliever, going 4-2 with a 2.67 ERA in 27 innings. At the plate, he hit a pair of home runs in a 10-5 win over Coe.
Devin Wagenman, a second-team outfielder, ranked 10th in the IIAC, batting .368 and ended the conference schedule riding a seven-game hitting streak.
Dendinger is NSIC field athlete of year
WAYNE, Neb. | Wayne State College senior thrower Michaela Dendinger was named the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year Wednesday afternoon by the league office.
It’s the second straight year Dendinger was named the top field athlete in NSIC women’s track. The senior from Coleridge, Neb., won the triple crown in throws for the second straight year at the NSIC Outdoor Championships, with a NSIC meet record in the shot put (54-3 ¾) while also winning the discus (166-6) and the hammer (203-3).
Dendinger enters next week’s (May 24-26) NCAA Division II Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Charlotte, N.C. ranked first in shot put (54-3 ¾), second in the hammer (205-10) and sixth in the discus (175-0).
USD’s Kollarova wins Summit academic honors
VERMILLION, S.D. | University of South Dakota senior Barbora Kollarova has been named to the Summit League Tennis Academic All-League team as announced Wednesday.
Hailing from Hlohovek, Slovakia, Kollarova has a 3.91 grade point average as a finance major. She was named to the All-Summit League for the second straight season, finishing the season with a 15-7 record in dual singles play at the No. 2 spot and helped the Coyotes claim their second consecutive runner-up finish at the Summit League Tournament.
BVU’s Guyett wins Midwest Region award
STORM LAKE, Iowa | Buena Vista freshman catcher Carlee Guyett has received first team All-Midwest Region honors as voted on by members of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
Guyett was one of 10 Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference players named to the first team. She will now be put on the ballot for All-America consideration.
Guyett led the Iowa Conference batting .466, which was the fifth-best single-season average in BVU history and ranked second in the entire region. She set a school record with 17 doubles and had at least one hit in 34 of 36 games, including an 18-game hitting streak to begin her career.
