PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. | Briar Cliff is tied for 29th after completing two rounds in the NAIA Women’s Golf Championship Wednesday at PGA National Squire Course.
The Chargers were one of 15 teams in the 30-team field to complete their second round. Play was suspended for the second day in a row on Wednesday, which did not allow all of the teams teeing off in the afternoon wave to finish their rounfs.
Rain and high winds forced suspension of Tuesday’s first round. After facing gusty winds of approximately 15-30 miles-per-hour throughout the day, approaching weather forced a delay and eventual postponement of Wednesday’s second round.
Briar Cliff, which qualified by winning the Great Plains Athletic Conference, has posted scores of 355 and 357 for a 712 total. Cardinal Stritch had the exact same score.
Taylor Minger paced BCU on Wednesday with 44-42—86 after shooting 44-43—87 in the first round. The Charger freshman recorded the highlight of the day Tuesday by scoring an eagle on the par-5 18th hole.
Briar Cliff’s other second-round efforts included 47-41—88 by Abby Brinkman, 44-46—90 by Arianna Presilla, 51-42—93 by Nicole Hemelberg and 47-47—94 by Brooke Kroeger.
Presilla shot back-to-back 43s for 86 in the opening round. Hemelberg carded 43-45—88, Kroeger 51-43—94 and Brinkman 46-50—96.
