STORM LAKE, Iowa | Four individuals and one team will be formally inducted into the Buena Vista University Athletic Hall of Fame during halftime of the Beavers’ football game against Loras on Saturday, Oct. 6.

Multiple-sport athlete Don Walls have been selected to be enshrined into the BVU Athletic Hall of Fame along with basketball player LuAnn (Thurn) Van Kirk, wrestler Jamie Taxted and football/track and field athlete Jeff Brennan. Buena Vista’s 1975 Boot Hill Bowl championship football team was also selected for induction by the BVU Athletic Hall of Fame Committee.

Still atop the basketball charts with 480 assists and 336 steals, Walls earned four letters while playing both basketball and baseball from 1991-95. He also lettered for the 1994 and 1995 football teams, winning second-team all-conference honors while also winning honorable mention accolades on the baseball diamond.

A 1981 graduate, Van Kirk played during a four-year stretch when Buena Vista went 80-22 and won the 1979-80 Io-Kota Conference championship. An all-conference performer as a freshman, Van Kirk was member of the team’s 1,000-point club who also ranked among the program’s top 25 career rebounders.

Taxted wrestled for BVU Hall of Fame Coach Al Baxter and became the program’s sixth NCAA individual champion when he captured the 125-pound title in 2002. The two-time All-American also took third in 2001.

A 2001 graduate, Brennan was a four-year member of both the Beaver football and track and field teams. An All-American in both sports, Brennan was an Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after placing third in 2001.

Playing under legendary head coach and BVU Hall of Famer Jim Hershberger, the 1975 Buena Vista football team went 7-2 (6-1 Io-Kota) in the regular season.

Buena Vista concluded the season with their seventh straight victory, 24-21 over St. Mary’s of the Plains College at Memorial Stadium in Dodge City, Kan. The Beavers had six all-conference selections as well as an honorable mention All-American.
