SIOUX FALLS | Northern Colorado clipped South Dakota 63-62 in the Sanford Pentagon Showcase here Saturday.
Andre Spight made two free throws with four seconds remaining and Northern Colorado survived a last-second 3-point try by USD's Matt Mooney.
Mooney's bucket with 10 seconds left gave the Coyotes a 62-61 lead.
Triston Simpson paced USD (5-2) with 18 points, while Tyler Hagedorn had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds. Mooney finished with 12 points, but was 4-for-21 from the field.
USD suffered through a cold shooting night, making 20 of 64 for 31 percent. Northern Colorado wasn't much better (21 of 59, 35.6 percent), but managed to hold on for the victory.
The game-clinching free throws were part of a 28-point performance for Spight. Jordan Davis added 23 for the Golden Bears, now 4-2 on the season.
Northern Colorado led 27-22 at halftime after the Coyotes shot just 26 percent.
South Dakota plays Youngstown State in its third game in as many days here Sunday.
