AUSTIN, Texas | Danielle Waldner became the third South Dakota athlete in three days to move on to the NCAA Championships qualfying in the shot put at the NCAA West Preliminary at Mike A. Myers Stadium Saturday.
Waldner became the first USD to qualify for the championships in the shot put, sending a 55-3 throw on her third and final attempt to move on to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships which will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon for June 7-10.
The Redfield, S.D., native initially broke the South Dakota program record in the shot put as a freshman and has improved the initial mark by nearly seven feet in four years. She launched a personal best 56-11.5 to break the Summit League Championship record two weeks ago. Her mark ranks ninth in the NCAA entering the championships.
