KEY LARGO, Fla. | South Dakota’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams concluded their winter break trip with losses during the Orange Bowl Swim Classic held at the Jacobs Aquatic Center.

Nicholas Gehling highlighted South Dakota’s 279-169 men’s loss to Texas A&M with a second-place time of 1:00.67 in the 100 butterfly. Elbert Chuang contributed thirds in both the 50 breaststroke (30.37) and the 100 breaststroke (1:06.58).

Steve Wascom posted a pair of fourths for the Coyotes, finishing behind Chuang with his 1:07.32 in the 100 breaststroke. He later joined Ben Kopp, Kyle Weis and Eric Erlenmeyer for a fourth-place 1:50.36 in the 200 medley relay.

Meanwhile, Chuang and Erlenmeyer joined Hunter Padgett and Gray Determan for a fourth-place 1:41.89 in the 200 freestyle relay.

South Dakota’s women fell 284-164 to Duquesne. The squad’s top finish came in the 200 medley relay, where Theresa Godlewski, Kassidie Cornell, Hannah Gupton and Quinn Fawcett teamed up for a third-place 2:07.09.

Maddie Gallagher was USD’s lead swimmer in the fourth-place 200 medley relay, combining with Hannah Tietjen, Amy Taylor and Emma O’Brien for a time of 1:59.05.
