Briar Cliff coach earns honor
SIOUX CITY | Briar Cliff defensive coordinator Eric Daniels has been selected as one of the American Football Coaches Association 35 Coaches Under 35. The class of 35 coaches included only two NAIA coaches with Daniels being one and Kansas Wesleyan head coach Matt Drinkall.
This year's class was chosen from a total of 138 applicants. In order to be eligible, applicants must have been born on or after January 1, 1983, and must be currently serving as a high school head coach, a two-year college full-time assistant or head coach, or an NAIA/NCAA full-time assistant or head coach. Applicants were required to submit a resume, five references, and a 1,600-word article on an offense, defensive, special teams or position-specific topic of the applicant's choosing.
Prior to joining the Chargers coaching staff, Daniels was at Oklahoma Panhandle State. OPS finished in the top 25 in 2017 for the first time in 35 years.
USD's Mooney on Henson list
BOSTON – South Dakota junior Matt Mooney continues to be named to the 2017-18 Lou Henson Award Watch List, in the mid-season update announced Thursday. The award is given annually to the nation’s top Division I mid-major player.
The Wauconda, Illinois, native has started 18 games averaging 17.7 points per contest, a team-high. He has also grabbed 3.6 rebounds and dished 2.8 assists per game for the Coyotes who are 14-5 overall, holding a No. 14 ranking in the Mid-Major Top-25.
