SIOUX CENTER, Iowa | Heading into Saturday’s non-conference game at Open Space Park, Dordt’s football team had scored 60 points in their previous five games.

Offensively, it was a record-setting afternoon for Coach Greg Youngblood’s Defenders. Daniel Fennig rushed for 104 yards and was one of seven individuals to score at least one touchdown in a 56-27 victory over Trinity Bible College.

The majority of the records (see breakout), including the most points in a game, were previously established in a 40-20 win over Dakota State on Oct. 22, 2011.

Dordt (2-4) also set a new single-game defensive mark with five interceptions. Three of the thefts led to touchdowns, starting with Camren Pitre’s first-quarter pickoff which launched a five-play, 28-yard series that ended with Darryl Van Grouw’s 12-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Thomas Newman for a 7-0 lead.

Ray Cleveland’s second-quarter interception led to Newman’s 1-yard run that produced a 35-8 lead. Michael Knobloch had a fourth-quarter interception that led to Kenneth Lewis’ 9-yard touchdown run.

Chris McDaniel had six solo tackles and two tackle assists for Dordt, which will play a Great Plains Athletic Conference game at Nebraska Wesleyan next Saturday, starting at 1 p.m. in Lincoln.
