WAYNE, Neb. | Winston Maxwell ran for 76 yards and two touchdowns as the 18th-ranked Sioux Falls football team defeated Wayne State 31-7 in a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference game here Thursday.

Wayne State (4-3, 2-1) took an early 7-0 lead on a 49-yard touchdown pass from Zach Osborn to Sam Wegner.

USF (6-1, 2-1) responded with a 40-yard touchdown run from Jason Towns and a 1-yard scoring plunge from Maxwell to give the Cougars a 14-7 lead they would not relinquish.

USF finished with 376 yards of total offense while holding Wayne State to just 198 yards.

Wayne State plays at Winona State next week.
