SIOUX CITY | Briar Cliff head football coach Dennis Wagner announced the signing of 35 recruits to his Charger football program Wednesday. The list includes 11 athletes from the Iowa and Nebraska and there are three local recruits from Sioux City and Sergeant Bluff.
“Our staff is very excited about the 2018 recruiting class for Briar Cliff University,” Wagner said. “The list includes 14 early transfer students who will participate in spring drills. We will continue to build on this list with another 15 to 20 student athletes before this fall to complete our fall camp roster.”
The class can be broken down into 20 defensive players, 14 offensive players and one specialist that is a punter and kicker.
Sioux City North linebacker Matt Little, 6-foot, 220 pounds, Sergeant Bluff-Luton offensive lineman Jacob Sponder, 6-5, 280, and Sioux City West offensive/defensive lineman Kory Woodruff, 6-4, 320, were the local players to sign with the Chargers.
Briar Cliff will be adding six offensive lineman, three wide receivers, two quarterbacks and one running back, tight end and full back. Defensively, there are 10 new linebackers, seven defensive lineman and three defensive backs to the unit.
Wagner is entering his second season leading the Chargers after going winless in his first campaign.
