VERMILLION, S.D. | South Dakota will open the 2019 football season at home against Montana on Aug. 31 and host Houston Baptist on Sept. 14. The two additions complete the 2019 schedule which provides six home games for the first time since 2014.
USD and Montana will meet for the 19th time and the seventh in a season opener since 1949. Each of the last three meetings (2012-14) were decided by eight points or less. A return game will take place in Missoula, Montana, during the 2022 season.
It will be the first meeting between the Coyotes and Houston Baptist, which joined the Southland Conference in 2014. The game will be played one week after South Dakota’s first-ever game against Oklahoma.
“We are committed to playing the best Division I competition in the country,” said USD Coach Bob Nielson. “We are excited about the challenges our schedule provides this year and in years to come.”
The other home opponents on the 2019 schedule are Indiana State, Southern Illinois, Youngstown State and South Dakota State. The Coyotes’ fourth non-conference tilt is at Northern Colorado at week after the Houston Baptist contest.
