WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas | Morningside is the first-round leader in the men's division of the two-day Texas Intercollegiate tournament held at Hawks Creek Golf Club here Monday. The Mustangs hold a one-stroke advantage over tournament host and third-ranked Texas Wesleyan.
Morningside shot 573 while Texas Wesleyan had a 574 and Tyler Junior College recorded a 577.
The Mustangs are led by Johnny Douglas who sits in second place shooting 70-67--137 while Corey Matthey is third at 69-71--140. Ferran Cortilla shot 74-72--146 to tie for 14th, Dan Bone carded 78-72--150 to tie for 23rd and Cody Holck had 79-79--158 to tie for 34th.
Texas Wesleyan's Rowan Lester is the leader after the first day with a 136.
The Morningside women are in fifth place shooting 649 led by Sam Knight's 79-74--153 as she is tied for 11th. Maria Zorrilla went 82-78--160 to tie for 15th, and Myla Brown had an 82-80--162 to sit in 20th. Alex Mankle is in 30th with 90-84--174 and Mikaela Livengood shot 90-90--180 for 34th.
Texas Wesleyan leads at 608 with Alex Schies and Mathilde Bertuol leading the individual race with 144 on the day.
