WESTWORTH VILLAGE, Texas | No. 3-ranked Texas Wesleyan overcame a one-stoke deficit to Morningside after the first day to win the Texas Intercollegiate tournament held at Hawks Creek Country Club Monday.
Host Texas Wesleyan trailed the Mustangs 574-573 after the first two rounds of play yesterday and passed Morningside, which shot a 303 team score while Wesleyan finished with a 285.
Leo Mathard of Texas Wesleyan shot a 69 round Tuesday to pass teammate Rowan Lester to win the individual medalist honors by three strokes.
Corey Matthey of Morningside also tied with Lester in third place with a 69-71-74--214 finish. The Mustangs' Johnny Douglas (70-67-80--217) was eighth in the individual results while Ferran Cortilla (74-72-77--223) was 18th, Dan Bone (78-72-77--227) 25th and Cody Holck (79-79-75--233) 29th for Morningside.
The Mustang women finished in fifth place, their position after two rounds with a total of 980. Texas Wesleyan won the event with a 916.
Sam Knight led Morningside with a 13th-place finish with a score of 79-74-79--232. Maria Zorrilla (82-78-83--243) was 17th, Myla Brown (82-80-86--248) 19th, Alex Mankle (80-84-88-262) 29th and Mikaela Livengood (90-90-83--263) 31st to round out the Mustang results.
Mathilde Bertuol of Tyler Junior College won the medalist honors with a three-round total 216.
