NORTH SIOUX CITY | Morningside College’s women’s golf team successfully defended its title at the Lila Frommelt Fall Classic, outscoring nationally-ranked William Penn 625-632 in a two-day event that concluded Saturday at Two Rivers Golf Club.
Maria Zorrilla, a freshman from Colhuila, Mexico, won medalist honors for Coach Todd Sapp’s Mustangs, combining rounds of 76 and 72 for a 148. Zorrilla won by a six-stroke margin over Helene Larsen, who competes for William Penn, which was 17th in the NAIA preseason poll.
Both Zorrilla and Larsen fired 72s to tie for Saturday’s best score.
Taylor Minger shot a third-place round of 155 for Briar Cliff, third at the meet with a 644. The Mustangs’ Alex Mankle placed fourth (157) while the Chargers’ Abby Brinkman (158) took fifth.
Morningside also received counting scores from Sam Knight (162) and Mikaela Livengood (163).
