AKRON, Iowa | The Kingsley-Pierson baseball team defeated Woodbury Central 6-5 in a Class 1A district semifinal on Thursday in Akron.

Kingsley-Pierson scored four runs in the fourth inning with the first five batters hitting singles. Peyton Kuchel, Lee Phelan, Kyler Krieg, Matthew Christophersen and Cam Bainbridge each singled with Christophersen and Bainbridge both driving in one run. Jordan Utesch walked to drive in a run and Mitchell Bohle was hit by pitch to score the fourth run of the inning giving the Panthers a 6-1 lead.

Woodbury Central answered with four runs in the top of the fifth to draw within one run. The Wildcats benefitted from singles by Colton Herbold, Jacob Harris and Christopher Mandl. They then received a double from Austin Rapp.

Kingsley-Pierson catcher Bainbridge then retired a Woodbury Central runner attempting to steal third base and Jessen Reinking retired the next two hitters to escape the jam. Reinking would retire the side in order in the sixth and seventh innings to preserve the Kinsley-Pierson victory.

Jordan Utesch earned the win for Kingsley-Pierson after allowing two hits, one run, three walks and striking out three batters in four innings of work. Krieg had two hits and scored two runs. Bainbridge drove in two runs.

Rapp had two hits and an RBI for the Wildcats.

Woodbury Central finishes the season with a 19-9 record, boasting a shared conference title in the regular season and a Western Valley Conference postseason tournament title.

Kingsley-Pierson, which won two out of three meetings against the Wildcats, improves to 18-7. The Panthers will face Akron-Westfield in a Class 1A district title contest at 7 p.m. Saturday in Akron.

REMSEN ST. MARY'S 15, STORM LAKE ST. MARY'S 0: Jacob Wesselmann and Carter Kuchel hit home runs to lead the Hawks to a Class 1A district semifinal win over the Panthers in a game played in Remsen. Iowa Thursday. The game was halted by run rule after four innings.

Wesselman and Kuchel both hit two-run shots in the first inning to give the Hawks a 4-0 lead. Derrick Schorg also had a two-hit game and drove in a run for Remsen St. Mary's.

Wesselmann pitched the first three innings and gave up one hit while striking out five.

The Hawks (25-7) will host Newell-Fonda in the district final game Saturday. The Mustangs defeated Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire 13-4 in a game played here earlier Thursday.

WEST SIOUX 10, HARRIS-LAKE PARK 0 (6): Hunter Dekkers had two singles, a double and two RBIs as the ninth-ranked West Sioux baseball team defeated Harris-Lake Park 10-0 in six innings in a Class 1A district semifinal on Thursday in Hawarden.

Tucker VanderFeen allowed one hit, no runs or walks and struck out two batters in three innings of work to earn the win for West Sioux (21-5). Jake Lynott had two singles, a triple and scored three runs. Zach Hulshof and Austin Wilbert both had two hits and an RBI.

Bryce Perkins had two hits for Harris-Lake Park (9-11).

West Sioux hosts Gehlen Catholic in the district championship game on Saturday.

GEHLEN CATHOLIC 6, CENTRAL LYON 1: Lucas McCarty had a home run and a triple and drove in three runs to pace the Jays to a Class 1A district semifinal baseball win over the Lions in a game played in Hawarden, Iowa Thursday.

Gehlen scored five times in the second inning to take charge and improve to 19-9. Cooper Davis also had two hits for Gehlen, which will face West Sioux Saturday for the district title.

Colin Budden was the winning pitcher, giving up five hits and four walks while logging 10 strike outs in 6.2 innings of work.
