SLOAN, Iowa -- Carah Drees recorded a triple-double with 20 points, 14 rebounds and 12 blocks as the Westwood girls basketball team defeated Audubon 70-33 in a Class 1A Region 8 quarterfinal game on Tuesday in Sloan.

Andee Martin had a double-double of her own with 29 points and 10 rebounds for the Rebels (17-5).

Leah Subbrt led Audubon with 15 points.

Westwood plays at West Monona in the semifinals on Friday.

Audubon ends its season at 3-20.

NEWELL-FONDA 77, AR-WE-VA 28: The No. 4 Mustangs led from start to finish in winning a second-round Class 1A regional girls basketball game over the Rockets in a game played in Newell, Iowa Tuesday.

Olivia Larsen scored a dozen points and Ella Larsen 11 to lead Newell-Fonda, now 22-0. The Mustangs will host Glidden-Ralston in regional semi-final Friday. Emilee Danner had 12 points to lead Ar-We-Va.

UNITY CHRISTIAN 60, WOODBURY CENTRAL 53: Jori Bronner scored 22 points as the Unity Christian girls basketball team defeated Woodbury Central 60-53 in a Class 2A Region 8 quarterfinal game on Tuesday in Orange City.

Haley Hofmeyer and Janie Schoonhoven both finished with 15 points for Unity Christian (17-5).

Sally Gallagher made five 3-pointers and had a game-high 29 points for Woodbury Central. Sidnie Steffen scored nine points while Payge Ronfeldt finished with six points and seven steals.

Unity Christian made 21 of 25 free throws, including 12 of 14 free throws in the fourth quarter. Hofmeyer made 8 of 8 free throws in the final stanza to help salt away the win for the Knights.

Unity Christian plays West Sioux in the semifinals on Friday in Hawarden.

Woodbury Central ends its season at 16-7.

AKRON-WESTFIELD 53, GEHLEN CATHOLIC 44: Brooke Koele scored 20 points to lead the Westerners to a win over the Jays in a Class 1A regional  game played in Akron, Iowa Tuesday.

Lily Kenney also added 11 for Akron-Westfield (18-5), which will travel to face No. 5 Kingsley-Pierson Friday.

Abbie Dickman had 13 points and Addison Weber 12 to lead Gehlen, which closes its season with a 15-8 record.

KINGSLEY-PIERSON 68, MMCRU 32: Jayde Barto recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds as the fifth-ranked (1A) Kingsley-Pierson girls basketball team downed MMCRU 68-32 in a Class 1A Region 1 quarterfinal game on Tuesday in Kingsley.

Addison Hirschman led the Panthers (19-2) with 17 points. Bri Jensen finished with 11 points and nine steals while Madison Goodwin added 10 points.

Gretchen Ruba led MMCRU with nine points.

Kingsley-Pierson hosts Akron-Westfield on Friday in the semifinals.

MMCRU ends its season at 11-12.

WEST SIOUX 53, LAWTON-BRONSON 35: Emma Mace scored 18 points as the No. 11 (2A) West Sioux girls basketball team defeated Lawton-Bronson 53-35 in a Class 2A Region 8 quarterfinal game on Tuesday in Hawarden.

Abbie Ericson finished with 13 points for West Sioux (19-3).

Kaitlyn Ricke led Lawton-Bronson with 12 points.

West Sioux hosts Unity Christian in the semifinals on Friday in Hawarden.

Lawton-Bronson ends its season at 9-14.

OKOBOJI 56, SIOUX CENTRAL 39: The Pioneers powered past the Rebels in a Class 2A regional second round girls basketball tournament game played in Milford, Iowa Tuesday.

Okoboji was led by Grace Wintz who had 15 points and 10 rebounds; Kallyn Stumbo also had a double-double with 10 points and 13 assists. Camry Jones also added 11 points for the Pioneers (18-4) who take on No. 10 ranked North Union in Armstrong, Iowa Friday.

Nebraska

WAYNE 50, NORFOLK CATHOLIC 36: The Blue Devils trailed entering the fourth quarter but used a big final stanza to pull away for a win in a C1-5 girls basketball sub-district semifinal played in Norfolk, Nebraska Tuesday.

Norfolk Catholic held a 28-27 lead after three quarters but Wayne moved on with a 23-8 edge over the game's final eight minutes. Kylie Hammer scored a game-high 22 points to lead the 17-8 Blue Devils, who will take on either Winnebago or Pierce in the final here Thursday.

Jordan Peitz had 11 points to led Norfolk Catholic, which ends its season with an 8-15 record.

ESTHERVILLE LINCOLN CENTRAL 41, OKOBOJI 40: Senior Jacob Heinrichs hit a game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to give Estherville Lincoln Central a 41-40 win in the opening round of the of the Class 2A District 3 tournament on Monday in Estherville.

Junior Brian Egeland led the Midgets (12-10) with 13 points.

Senior Logan Abrahamson finished with 11 points for Okoboji while senior Izic Brouwer added eight.

Trailing 40-38 with about three seconds left, Heinrichs actually tripped coming off a screen from a teammate. He caught the inbounds pass from senior Trey Jacobson on his knees and immediately started dribbling to avoid a travel. After three dribbles, Heinrichs calmly stood up and drained the game-winning shot from the top of the key.

Heinrichs received some national attention for his buzzer-beater. ESPN’s SportsCenter Twitter account tweeted the 18 second video of the game-winning shot with the phrase, “Just how they drew it up. #SCtop10.”

Estherville Lincoln Central plays next in the district semifinals against Sioux Center on Thursday in Sheldon.

Okoboji’s season ends at 5-17.
