CHEROKEE, Iowa |  Kassidy Pingel led four double-digit scores with 24 points as Class 3A fourth-ranked Cherokee opened up the season with an 85-37 win over Manson-NW Webster in Cherokee Tuesday.

Paityn Hagberg added 17, JaMae Nichols poured in 13 and Teagan Slaughter finished with 10 points.

Manson-NW Webster (1-1) was led by Bailey Kenyon's 10 points.

EAST SAC 55, SIOUXLAND CHRISTIAN 29: Taylor Houska had 18 points as East Sac County jumped out to a 14-2 lead en route to the victory Monday.

Josie Bontrager added nine points as East Sac improved to 2-0.

Siouxland Christian (0-2) was led by Daisy Hiserote's 11 points.

LOGAN-MAGNOLIA 65, WESTWOOD 52: Kenzie Curard had 25 points and Kylan Sraight added 18 to lead Logan-Magnolia over Westwood.

The Rebels were paced by Breanna Pike and Carah Dress who had 14 and 11 points, respectively. Westwood is now 0-1.


SPIRIT LAKE 73, WOODBURY CENTRAL 29: Spirit Lake used a 20-2 second-quarter run to put away Woodbury Central, 73-29, in a non-conference boys basketball opener for both clubs here on Monday.

The scoring spurt took a 13-12 advantage for the Indians and made it 33-14. Spirit Lake enjoyed a 42-18 halftime cushion.

Junior Owen Coburn, a 6-foot-10 South Dakota State University recruit, paced Dr. David Smith's squad with 18 points. Mason McCaffery, another junior, tallied 17 for the Lakes Conference representatives. Junior Kip Hurd had 13 points and eight rebounds, while Alex Van Dyke, a senior, contributed nine points, five rebounds and six assists as the visitors moved to 1-0 on the season.

Sophomore guard Mitchell Countryman and senior guard Dustin Widman scored seven points apiece for the hosts, who travel to Sergeant Bluff-Luton on Tuesday night.

Spirit Lake also prevailed in the junior varsity contest, getting a 51-48 triumph over Woodbury Central.

EAST SAC COUNTY 63, SIOUXLAND CHRISTIAN 33: Levi Olhausen had 15 points and Connor Crabb added 13 as East Sac County opened the season with the victory in Sioux City.

Siouxland Christian, also playing its first game of the season, got 10 points from Preston Moss.

LE MARS GEHLEN 63, LAWTON-BRONSON 42: The Jays opened the season with a victory as they started fast and got 15 points from both Cole Wiltgen and Bryan Nohava.

Lawton-Bronson (0-1) was led by Ethan Heiss who had 10.
