WAYNE, Neb. | Matthew Becker hit for a game -best 18 points to lead Hartington Cedar Catholic past Wayne 57-44 in the finals of the boys Great Northeast Nebraska shootout at Wayne State College Saturday.
Riley Arens also chipped in 11 points for the Trojans, now 7-2. Cedar Catholic pulled away in the fourth stanza after leading 36-32 after three quarters.
Mason Lee had 13 points and Shea Sweetland 11 for the Blue Devils (4-6).
WEST POINT-BEEMER 66, ARLINGTON 33: West Point-Beemer used big first and third quarters to take third place with a 66-33 win over Arlington at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne on Saturday.
West Point-Beemer had a 17-6 lead after one quarter and outscored Arlington 21-3 in the third quarter. Blake Anderson led the victors with 13 points and Garret Meyer had 10.
West Point-Beemer is 5-4 and Arlington is 3-7.
NORFOLK CATHOLIC 82, LAUREL-CONCORD-COLERIDGE 62: Norfolk Catholic raced out to a 38-18 halftime lead and never looked back in winning the fifth-place game 82-62 over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne on Saturday.
Ethan Piper led Norfolk Catholic (2-7) with 26 points and Andrew Flecs had 22. Kelby Schefer added 14.
LCC's (8-3) Izac Reifenrath led all scorers with 30 points and Ty Erwin added 13.
GORDON-RUSHVILLE 58, PENDER 29: Despite scoring just two points in the fourth quarter, Gordon-Rushville easily claimed seventh place at the Great Northwest Nebraska Shootout in Wayne Saturday.
Gordon-Rushville (8-2) outscored Pender 18-0 in the second quarter and got 25 points from Dylan Schwarting and 15 from Jared Nelson.
Pender (4-6) was paced by Jordan Springer, Sam Mailloux and Tyler Nelson who had six points apiece.
PONCA 60, WINNEBAGO 58: Ponca got 17 points from Max Masin and 14 from Carter Kingsbury as top-ranked (C2) Ponca downed (C1) No. 3 Winnebago to win the Elkhorn tournament on Saturday.
Logan Kingsbury and Connor Day both had 13 points for Ponca.
The game featured 10 ties and 15 lead changes.
WYNOT 58, CROFTON 37: Landon Wieseler had 13 points, Garrett Lange added 12 and Owen Sudbeck had 10 as Wynot rolled to a win Friday.
WAYNE 69, HARTINGTON CEDAR CATHOLIC 50: The Blue Devils ran their record to 9-3 with a win over the Trojans in the girls final of the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout basketball tournament at Wayne State College Saturday.
Kylie Hammer fired in 22 points and Frankie Klausen also had 18 for Wayne, which pulled away after leading 27-26 at the half.
Jada Cattau had 16 points to lead Cedar Catholic (7-2).
NORFOLK CATHOLIC 47, ARLINGTON 44: Norfolk Catholic held off Arlington to finish third at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne on Saturday.
Norfolk Catholic (4-6) got 17 points from Hanna Neesen and 12 from Jordan Peitz.
Arlington (5-5) was led by Shelby Kap's 11.
WEST POINT-BEEMER 66, GORDON-RUSHVILLE 26: West Point-Beemer's defense suffocated Gordon-Rushville to claim fifth at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne Saturday.
West Point-Beemer (6-4) was led by Brittany Hinkel's 12 points while Jacobie Knight had nine points for Gordon-Rushville (5-5).
PENDER 51, LAUREL-CONCORD-COLERIDGE 46: Pender held on to claim seventh place at the Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne on Saturday.
Pender build a 36-18 lead at halftime only to score 15 points the entire second half, three in the fourth quarter.
Ashley Ostrand led Pender (4-8) with 17 points and Faith Morris added 12.
LCC (4-7) got 13 points from Lorna Maxon.
CROFTON 40, WYNOT 22: Crofton held Wynot to nine points in the second half en route to the win Friday.
Crofton was led by by Lacey Sprakel's 18 points.
Wynott was led by Michaela Lange and Julia Eskens who both had six points.
