NORTH SIOUX CITY | Peyton Wingert’s game-high 21 points lifted Dakota Valley’s girls basketball team to their third straight victory, 61-29 over North Monday night.

Wingert has reached double-figure scoring in each of Dakota Valley’s 17 games this season. Currently averaging 18.3 points per game, she topped 20 points for the seventh time for Coach Tammy Lilly’s 14-3 squad.

Madisyn Heeren provided 16 rebounds and four steals for Dakota Valley, which stretched a 16-4 first-quarter lead to 35-11 at halftime en route to the rout.

Haley Enoch led North (1-18) with 15 points. Courtney Johnson grabbed six rebounds.

Both teams play tonight with Dakota Valley at Vermillion while North hosts Bishop Heelan.

WEST 80, WOODBURY  CENTRAL 64: Rallying from a 9-4 first-quarter deficit, West went on a 16-2 tear to close the game’s first eight minutes and went on to defeat Woodbury Central in Moville Monday night.

Woodbury Central (14-6) pulled within 39-34 early in the third quarter before West (14-6) went on a 10-1 run that boosted its advantage to 49-35. The Wildcats, who made just 10 of 22 free throws, could get no closer than 10 down the stretch.

Ashley Gruis led West with 16 points. Double-digit scoring also came from Carly Knutson-Kobold (12), Hallie Dicus (12), Bricelyn Comstock (11) and Jayda Graham (11).

Maddie Paulsen led Woodbury Central with 21 points while Sally Gallagher and Autumn Weaver added 19 and 11 points, respectively.


SIOUX CENTRAL 56, HARTLEY HMS 52: Trace Blomberg’s game-high 13 points carried Sioux Central to Monday night’s non-conference win at Hartley.

Jake Hanson and Prestan Samson each added 10 points for Sioux Central (11-8) while Cade Schiphoff led Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn (8-12) with 12 points, one more than teammate Ivan Abonce.
