AKRON, Iowa -- Brooke Koele scored 17 points as the Akron-Westfield girls basketball team improved to 1-1 with a 43-42 win over MMCRU on Tuesday in Akron.

Megan Loutsch hit five three-pointers and scored 19 points for MMCRU (1-1).

Loutsch hit a three-pointer with seven seconds left in the game to trim the lead to 43-42, but Akron-Westfield in-bounded the ball and avoided getting fouled to run out the clock.

SOUTH O’BRIEN 43, HINTON 35: Hannah Dau and Megan Waterman both scored 11 points as the South O’Brien girls basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 43-35 win over Hinton on Tuesday in Paullina.

Laura Brighton finished with 11 points for Hinton (0-3).

WEST MONONA 77, WEST HARRISON 31: Abbey Jamison scored 35 points as the West Monona girls basketball team downed West Harrison 77-31 on Tuesday in Onawa.

Sara Maule had 17 points for West Monona (1-0) and Macie McCall finished with 13.

Cheyanne Rife scored 13 points for West Harrison (0-1).

NEWELL-FONDA 76, SPENCER 31: Olivia Larsen scored 15 points and Camryn Wilken 12 to lead the No. 8 Mustangs (Class 1A) to a win over te Tigers in a game played Tuesday in Spencer, Iowa. Keely Petzenhauser had 11 to lead Spencer, which was playing its season opener. Newell-Fonda is now 2-0.

WESTWOOD 96, WHITING 15: Andee Martin scored 22 points as the Westwood girls basketball team downed Whiting 96-15 on Tuesday in Whiting.

Carah Drees had 16 points for Westwood (2-1) while both Kaylee Smits and Emma Hall finished with 10 points.

Delaney Turner and Semia Aldrich both scored five points for Whiting (0-2).

CHEROKEE 81, EMMETSBURG 54: Paityn Hagberg scored 22 points as the fourth-ranked (3A) Cherokee girls basketball team defeated Emmetsburg 81-54 on Tuesday in Emmetsburg.

JeMae Nichols finished 17 points for Cherokee (2-0). Kassidy Pingel had 16 points and Teagan Slaughter added 12.

Abbie Schany scored 22 points for Emmetsburg (0-1) and Molly Schany finished with 13.

LE MARS 70, UNITY CHRISTIAN 39: The No. 5 Bulldogs (Class 4A) got 24 points from Madison Dreckman and rolled pace the Knights in a girls basketball game played in Le Mars, Iowa Tuesday.

Annie Ellis and Sidney Baumgartner also added 10 points for the winners.

CLAY CENTRAL-EVERLY 50, REMSEN ST. MARY'S 46: Carissa Doran scored 19 points and EmmaKay McClain 11 to lead the Mavericks to a win over the Hawks in a girls basketball game played Tuesday in Remsen, Iowa.

Sydney Schorg had 16 points and Sydney Schroeder 11 for St. Mary's.

BOYDEN-HULL 46, SHELDON 37: Mallory Nilles scored 11 points to lead the Comets to a Siouxland Conference girls basketball win over the Orabs Tuesday in Sheldon, Iowa. Emily Meyer had 8 points for Sheldon (1-1).

LEWIS CENTRAL 55, DENISON-SCHLESWIG 30: Maegan Holt scored 26 points to lead the No. 2 Titans (Class 4A) to a win over the Monarchs in a Hawkeye 10 Conference girls basketball game played in Council Bluffs, Iowa Tuesday. Alex Mohr scored 10 points to lead Denison-Schleswig.

WEST LYON 48, OKOBOJI 46: The Wildcats outlasted the Pioneers in double overtime in a Siouxland Conference girls basketball game played in Inwood, Iowa Tuesday.

Jordyn Kramer scored 17 points to lead West Lyon. Magan Christopherson had 17 points and Camry Jones 19 rebounds for Okoboji (0-2).

GEHLEN CATHOLIC 44, TRINITY CHRISTIAN 29: Chloe Bunkers scored 13 points and Addison Weber 12 to lead the Jays to a win over the Tigers in a girls basketball game played in Le Mars, Iowa Tuesday. Hannah Baker scored 10 points to lead Trinity Christian.
