SERGEANT BLUFF, Iowa | One night after dropping a season-opening conference contest, the Sergeant Bluff-Luton Warriors evened their record in a nonconference triumph over visiting Woodbury Central on Tuesday evening.
Coach Miranda Riediger's crew led from start to finishing in registering a 68-51 verdict over the Wildcats.
Senior Anna Lucas topped the scoring ledger with 15 points. Junior Abby Wisecup notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with four assists. Sophomore post Kenzie Foley also had a double-double with 13 points and 11 caroms, including eight on the offensive end, as SB-L went to work on the glass during the second half against a smaller WC club. Nineteen of the Warriors' 45 rebounds came on the offensive side of the court for the hosts.
Senior Kylee Christensen chipped in eight points and nine boards, while senior Lexi Sneller added seven points and four boards, rounding out a balanced scoring column for the Warriors, who improved to 1-1.
Sophomore Maddie Paulsen worked her way free for 17 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Sally Gallagher had 18 points, while classmate Sidney Steffen garnered 11 rebounds and tallied nine points. Woodbury Central, which had started the season with a nonconference victory over Hinton, fell to 1-1 on the season.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton, which dropped an MRAC contest to West on Monday evening in the season-opener, led 20-14 after the opening frame and outpointed WC in each quarter the rest of the way. The Warriors face North on Thursday at North.
Coach Matthew Jenness' squad, meantime, opens Western Valley Conference action on Friday at River Valley.
