WAVERLY, Neb. | Waverly put the defensive clamps on Class B top-ranked South Sioux City in its consolation game at the Waverly Tournament Saturday to earn the 55-38 win.
SSC's second straight loss came after it led 26-21 at halftime but was held to just 12 points total in the second half. The Cardinals managed just two points in the fourth quarter.
Junior Marybeth Rasmussen led the Cardinals with 15 points and McKenna Sims added 14. However, SSC shot just 30 percent from the floor and went just 2 of 8 from the free throw line.
Sydni Schenikau led Waverly with 16 points while Abigail Clarke had 12 and Alex Danson added 11.
Waverly took control of the game in the third quarter as it outscored SSC 23-10.
SSC is now 6-3 on the season as it prepares to face West on Tuesday.
