With just two weeks left in the prep football regular season there is still much to be sorted out before the postseason picture is complete.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton enters the final two weeks in good position at 7-0 and ranked fifth in Class 3A. However, the Warriors face a stiff test to return to the playoffs. SB-L travels to Spirit Lake on Friday before hosting defending district champ Storm Lake next week.

Obviously, two wins gives the Warriors the district outright otherwise there are multiple scenarios that could play out. A win over Spirit Lake Friday gets SB-L a playoff spot.

The Tornadoes have tough games with Spencer and the Warriors. Wins in both and they are in. Spencer can also reach the postseason with two wins. Heelan needs to beat Humboldt and Spirit Lake, both on the road, and needs Storm Lake and Spencer to both lose at least one game. Spirit Lake is also not eliminated at this point but needs help.

In District 7 Denison-Schleswig is 3-2 in district play but closes at the top two teams in Harlan and Winterset. Tough road but wins put them in postseason.

In Class 4A, East is coming off a 30-27 victory over Des Moines Roosevelt. At 2-1 in district play the Black Raiders will need to win out with a winnable game against Des Moines East on Friday and then a showdown with current unbeaten Johnston in Week 9. The Black Raiders are looking to return to the playoffs after making it seven straight years under coach Bob Goodvin before last season. Both West and North have been eliminated.

Class 2A District 1 has seen two teams separate themselves with top-ranked Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley and fourth-ranked Sioux Center both undefeated at 5-0 in the district. The two square off in Sioux Center Friday with the district title on the line.

The Nighthawks play Central Lyon/George-Little Rock in Week 9 while Sioux Center has Pocahontas Area.

The Lions could still make the postseason if Sioux Center upsets BH/RV and then they beat the Nighthawks.

In District 7, East Sac County is 5-0 but faces both South Central Calhoun and Kuemper in the final two weeks to determine the postseason bids.

Class 1A top-ranked West Lyon hosts one-win Sibley-Ocheyedan on Friday. A win guarantees a postseason spot after a big 55-14 win over Western Christian last week. The Wolfpack, the defending state champions, can return to the postseason with a pair of wins while Emmetsburg needs to win both and have Western Christian lose one more.

Class A No. 1 West Sioux needs one win in its final two to clinch the district. First chance is Friday against Woodbury Central.

Gehlen and Westwood both have one loss and that matchup looms in Week 9. Akron-Westfield would need to win out and get help.

Second-ranked Remsen St. Mary's has clinched the district with just one district game remaining in Eight-Player District 1 against winless Clay Central-Every next Friday.

Newell-Fonda needs to beat West Bend-Mallard on Friday to clinch a playoff spot. Harris-Lake Park and Graettinger face off Friday in a matchup of two-loss teams that need a win and help to keep playoff hopes alive.
