HULL, Iowa -- Ben Granstra rushed for 248 yards and scored five touchdowns to lead the No. 5 Western Christian to a 35-21 Class 1A District 1 win over the Emmetsburg in Hull, Iowa Friday.

Granstra scored on runs of 43 and 68 yards in the first quarter to give Western Christian (3-1 overall, 2-0 district) a 14-0 lead. Granstra hauled in a 52-yard pass from Caleb Harmsen in the third quarter and tacked scoring runs of 55 and four yards in the fourth quarter to help Western fend off a late E-Hawk rally.

GEHLEN CATHOLIC 21, WOODBURY CENTRAL 7: Gehlen Catholic jumped out to a 21-0 lead and didn't look back in downing Woodbury Central, 21-7, in a Class A District 1 contest here on Friday night.

Senior Adam Ellensohn started the Jays' scoring parade with a 2-yard burst midway through the first quarter.

Junior Jared Morris earned his way into the scoring ledger with 10:23 remaining in the half by pouncing on a fumble in the end zone. Quarterback Cole Wiltgen, a senior, appeared close to breaking the plane of the goal when the ball popped loose, giving an opportunistic offensive lineman a chance for a TD.

Ellensohn pushed the advantage to three scores with 3:12 left in the first half, driving in on a 12-yard dash to make it 21-0 in favor of the visitors.

Backup quarterback Garrett Arment fired a touchdown pass covering 27 yards to Nick Phelps to get Woodbury Central in the scoring column with 1:15 remaining in the third quarter. Phelps had helped turn the field position for the hosts with an 81-yard punt just minutes prior.

Wade Mitchell returned to the lineup after being injured and the Wildcat sophomore came back with a bang, registering 14 tackles and recovering a fumble.

Woodbury Central, which drops to 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in District action, hosts Lawton-Bronson in a homecoming tilt on Friday.

Gehlen Catholic, meantime, improves to 4-0 on the season, 2-0 in district contests. The unranked Jays, who have been rated as high as No. 7 in the Associated Press poll, host MVAO in a homecoming fray on Friday evening.

BOYER VALLEY 50, COLLINS-MAXWEL 0: Joe Weber finished with seven touchdowns as the Boyer Valley football team routed Collins-Maxwell 50-0 on Friday in Dunlap.

Weber completed 13 of 20 passes for 212 yards and five touchdowns for Boyer Valley (3-1). Weber had touchdown passes of 46, 1, 36, 15 and 5 yards. He also ran for a 12-yard touchdown and caught a 25-yard touchdown pass from Conlan Peterson.

OA-BCIG 39, TRI-CENTER 14: Chase Devitt ran for 176 yards and three touchdowns as the OA-BCIG football team downed Tri-Center 39-14 on Friday in Ida Grove.

Devitt had 21 carries and scored on runs of 13, 19 and 63 yards for OA-BCIG (3-1). Kaden Ladwig threw a pair of touchdown passes to Isaac Endrulat covering 20 and 41 yards.

SPENCER 26, SPIRIT LAKE 13: Cade Hopkins rushed for 106 yards and scored two touchdowns to lead the Tigers to a Class 3A District 1 win over the previous-unbeaten Indians in a game played in Spencer, Iowa Friday.

Cooper Fox and Brendan Ellis also scored rushing touchdowns for Spencer (3-1 overall,1-1 district). Spirit Lake (3-1 overall, 1-1 district) got a pair of touchdown passes from Nicholas Christensen.

WEST LYON 42, UNITY CHRISTIAN 0: Jaden Snyder completed 9 of 11 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns as top-ranked West Lyon blanked Unity Christian in a Class 1A District 1 contest on Friday.

Monte Pottebaum rushed 10 times for 57 yards and two touchdowns for the Wildcats.

West Lyon limited Unity Christian to 101 total yards as Zach DeSmet had four tackles, including two for loss and one sack.

HINTON 14, ALTA-AURELIA 6: Brennan Sitzmann rushed for 120 yards and scored a touchdown to help the Blackhawks down the Warriors in a Class 1A District 1 football game in Alta, Iowa Friday.

Wyatt Stuckey also scored on a run in the second quarter to give Hinton a 7-0 lead. Alta-Aurelia (1-3 overall, 0-2 district) pulled to within 7-6 when Logan McCoy ran in a quarterback keeper from seven yards out on the last play of the half.

Aiden Brock intercepted a pass in the end zone late in the fourth quarter to help the Blackhawks (3-1 overall, 2-0 district) preserve the win.

ST. EDMOND 34, SOUTH O'BRIEN 7: Cade Naughton rushed for 109 yards and scored three touchdowns to lead the Gaels to a win over the Wolverines in a Class A District 2 game played in Paullina, Iowa Friday.

South O'Brien (0-4 overall, 0-2 district) scored on Carson Louscher's 41-yard punt return in the third quarter. St. Edmond is 2-2 overall and 1-1 in district.

REMSEN ST. MARY’S 44, WEST BEND-MALLARD 6: Canaan Cox ran for over 200 yards and four touchdowns as the second-ranked (eight-man) and undefeated Remsen St. Mary’s football team improved to 4-0 with a 44-6 win over West Bend-Mallard on Friday in Remsen.

West Bend-Mallard falls to 2-2.

NEWELL-FONDA 48, KINGSLEY-PIERSON 8: Jesse Haack ran for 200 yards and one touchdown as the fourth-ranked (eight-man) and undefeated Newell-Fonda football team defeated Kingsley-Pierson 48-8 on Friday in Kingsley.

Austin Gerdes ran for 50 yards and two touchdowns and also returned a punt for a score for Newell-Fonda (4-0).

Kingsley-Pierson falls to 3-1.

SIOUX CENTER 54 , CHEROKEE 8: Cade Bleeker passed for four touchdowns as he helped the No. 4 Warriors to a win over the Braves in a Class 2A District 1 football game in Sioux Center, Iowa Friday.

Braden Jahn caught two TD passes while Isaac Vietor and Branden Zeutenhorst caught one scoring pass each for Sioux Center (4-0 overall, 2-0 district). Dalton Schreiner also rushed for two scores for the Warriors.

Alex Paulsrud scored on a 10-yard run in the fourth quarter for the Braves (1-3 overall, 1-1 district).

WEST SIOUX 56, WESTWOOD 7: The No. 3 Falcons got 174 yards rushing and four tochdowns from Jake Lynott as it rolled to a win over the Rebels in a Class A District 1 football game in Sloan Friday.

Quarterback Hunter Dekkers also passed for 209 yards and hit Zach Hulshof and Lynott on touchdown passes as West Sioux moved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in district. Chase Koopmans also rushed for three touchdowns for the Falcons.

Sean Westergaard scored on a 79-yard run in the fourth quarter for Westwood (2-2 overall, 1-1 district).

WEST MONONA 8, MAPLE VALLEY-AO/COU 0: Darius Gashe scored on a short run late in the third quarter to give the Spartans a win over the Rams in a Class A District 1 football game played in Mapleton, Iowa Friday.

West Monona improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in district while MV-AO/COU dropped to 0-4.

HARRIS-LAKE PARK 47, CLAY CENTRAL-EVERLY 0: Bryce Berkins passed for two touchdowns and ran for two more to lead the No.7 Wolves to a win in an 8-man District 1 football game played in Royal, Iowa Friday.

Perkins was 10-for-13 passing for 159 yards as H-LP moved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in district. Clay Central-Everly is now 0-3.

RIDGE VIEW 26, HMS 22: Jake Mitchell ran for 169 yards and scored on a 49-yard run as the Ridge View football team defeated Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn 26-22 on Friday in Hartley.

Jake Kliegl scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 1-yard run with 1:45 left in the game to give Ridge View 3-1) the lead for good.

Brett Wohlert had 28 carries for 184 yards and touchdown runs of one and 66 yards for HMS (2-2).

BHRV 62, SHELDON 14: J.T. Van’t Hul accounted for 255 yards of total offense and five touchdowns as the third-ranked (2A) Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley football team defeated sixth-ranked Sheldon 62-14 on Friday in a 2A-1 matchup in Sheldon.

Van’t Hul compelted 10 of 12 passes for 171 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another 84 yards and two scores for BH-RV (3-1, 2-0). Cade Moser caught six passes for 108 yards and one score.

Brady Prescott and Tyler Lode each scored a touchdown for Sheldon (3-1, 1-1).

Nebraska

PONCA 28, OAKLAND-CRAIG 20: Logan Kingsbury had a pair of touchdown runs and the Ponca football team rallied from a 20-14 fourth quarter deficit to defeat Oakland-Craig 28-20 on Friday in Ponca.

Kingsbury scored on runs of 73 and five yards for Ponca (4-0). Dalton Tremayne had a pair of touchdown passes.

Ben Smith had a pair of 4-yard touchdown runs for Oakland-Craig (3-1).

With the game tied at 20-all, Kingsbury’s 5-yard touchdown run proved to be the game winner giving Ponca the lead at 28-20.

CEDAR CATHOLIC 56, WISNER-PILGER 0: Jacob Kleiser and Jackson Eickhoff combined for 259 rushing yards and seven touchdowns as the Cedar Catholic football team downed Wisner-Pilger 56-0 on Friday in Wisner.

Keiser ran for 149 and four touchdowns on 12 carries for Cedar Catholic () while Eickhoff had 12 carries for 110 yards and three scores.

Wisner-Pilger falls to 0-4.

South Dakota

MADISON 42, VERMILLION 0: Josh Giles passed for 208 yards and three touchdowns as the top-ranked (A) Madison football team blanked Vermillion 42-0 on Friday in Vermillion.

Jaxon Janke caught five passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns for the Bulldogs (4-0).

Rylan Pratt led Vermillion (1-3) with 43 rushing yards.
