CEDAR FALLS, Iowa | Van Meter completed its perfect season by handing Regina its second straight runner-up finish in claiming the Class 1A state championship 28-7 here Friday.
Carson Rhodes ran for 125 yards and two touchdowns for for the Bulldogs, who beat West Lyon in the semifinals, while Blake Fryar completed 6 of 11 passes for 76 yards and two more scores.
Regina, which won six straight titles before losing to Western Christian in the title game a year ago, lost a fumble and threw three interceptions.
Isaac Vollstedt ran for 157 yards for Regina (10-3) but Michael Conlon and Ashton Cook combined to go 10 of 25 for 51 yards throwing the ball.
Van Meter finished the season with a 13-0 record after reaching the semifinals four of the last five years.
WAUKON 29, WILLIAMSBURG 0: Mitchell Snitker ran for 202 yards and the Indians' defense shut down Williamsburg to claim the Class 2A state title on Friday.
Waukon got on the board first in the second quarter when Abe Schwartz hit Michael Sweeney on a 10-yard pass. Evan Armstead scored on a 22-yard reception and a 30 yard run while Snitker had the final score on a 16-yard run.
Waukon (12-1), who downed Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley in the semifinals, outgained Williamsburg 427-259.
Williamsburg (10-3) running back Gage Hazen-Fabor, the leading rusher in Class 2A, was held to 97 yards.
This is Waukon's first title in school history.
WDM DOWLING 35, IOWA CITY WEST 21: West Des Moines Dowling completed its drive for its fifth consecutive state championship with a 35-21 victory over Iowa City West in the Class 4A title game Friday at the UNI-Dome.
Jayson Murray ran for 155 yards and three touchdowns while Blake Clark went 10 of 16 throwing the ball for 202 yards and a score.
Iowa City West scored first on a Evan Flitz 9-yard pass to Traevis Buchanan to go up 7-0. However, Dowling would tie the game on its next possession with a 41-yard TD run by Murray.
Dowling (12-1) took control with a 14-point second quarter to take a 21-7 halftime lead.
Iowa City West (12-1) saw quarterback Evan Flitz go 30 of 40 for 347 yards, three touchdowns and an interception.
C.R. XAVIER 31, PELLA 13: A balanced rushing attack gained 206 yards and Cedar Rapids Xavier completed its perfect season with a 31-13 win over Pella in the Class 3A football state championship game Thursday.
Quarterback Quinn Schulte ran for a game-high 88 yards and a touchdown, while throwing for 86 and another score. Schulte finished the night 7 of 9 passing.
Braden Stovie added 82 yards rushing in the winning effort for the Saints, who won their second state title, and first since 2006.
Jacob Hines led a strong defensive effort for Xavier, finishing with three tackles for loss and two sacks.
Avery Van Zee was by far the most productive player for Pella, which finished the season 11-2. Van Zee finished with 106 yards and a touchdown on five receptions.
