PRIMGHAR, Iowa -- Akron-Westfield recorded a 399 to win the Class 1A First-Round Regional at Primghar Golf and Country Club and advance while South O'Brien was second with a 429. Because South O'Brien was the host third-place Le Mars Gehlen, which shot 433, also moved on to the Second-Round Regional on Monday.
The Westerners' had the medalist and runner-up in Brooke Koele and Autumn Bundy, who shot 91 and 95, respectively. The Westerners also had Danika Smith finish tied for eighth with Central Lyon's Emily Vande Kop as both advanced to next week, shooting 103.
Remsen St. Mary's Tori Galles finished third with a 97, South O'Brien's Kaidee Weber and Rachel Sohn took fourth and fifth after recording rounds of 100 and 101. Central Lyon's Melissa Postma and Gehlen's Katelyn Willet both tied with Sohn for fifth place.
Akron-Westfield's golfers were rounded out by Alayna Mullinix (110) and Kayla Johnson (113). The Wolverines saw Shara Wallin shoot 108, Jillian Heemstra 120, Kaeley Einck had a 125 and Jenna Cosby shot 161.
The Jays added Harley Foreman (109), Aubree Nilles (110), Claire Zubrod (113), Krista Lipp (114) and Madelin Begnoche (120).
AT COUNCIL BLUFFS
Boyer Valley shot 404 to claim an Iowa Girls Class 1A First-Round Regional golf meet at Fox Run Golf Club here on Monday.
Paced by Anna Puck’s 89, the Bulldogs counted Katy Puck with a 101 and a pair of 107s from Abbie Miller and Regan Frazier to secure the title, advancing to the Second-Round Regional, a state-qualifying meet at Atlantic Golf & Country Club on Monday.
Woodbury Central finished second on Monday and will join Boyer Valley in moving on. Sally Gallagher fashioned nine-hole scores of 44-37 for an 81 to win medalist honors while leading Woodbury Central. She was joined on the Wildcats’ scoring ledger by Hanna Stratton (108), Sidnie Graff (110) and Sarah Crichton (119) for a 418 team total.
Other teams included Tri-Center (442), Logan-Magnolia (460), Woodbine (512) and St. Albert (543).
Kayla Chapman, of Treynor, finished second individually and will advance. Chapman shot 43-40 for an 83. Jessee Decker, of St. Albert, finished fifth overall with a 105 and also advanced to play for a state berth on Monday in Atlantic.
Hinton and Kingsley-Pierson finished first and second at the First-Round Regional golf meet at Brookside Golf Course her Monday shooting 408 and 440. With K-P hosting third place Lawton-Bronson also advanced with a 462.
Ridge View's Kennedy Mason was the medalist with a 99 followed by Lawton-Bronson's Sara Sappingfield and Hinton's Lauren Kipp who both shot 100.
Hinton also had Mackenzie Grenko and Claire Kipp shoot 102 to tie for fourth place while Hannah Vondrak took seventh with a 105. The Blackhawks also saw Lizzy Nohr shoot 122 and Emma Webb record a 141.
Kingsley-Pierson's team had Alex Thompson shoot 108, Ali Orzechowski fire a 112, Jenna Schmid had a 115, Rachel Stewart went 116 and Bradi Bohlke added a 119.
The Eagles' Libby Parmalee had a 111, Rylee Wordekemper added a 113, Sarah Petersen had a 138 and Victria Fillipi recorded a 178.
West Monona's McKenzie Rolph finished sixth with a 106 to advance.
Manson-Northwest Webster and Newell-Fonda finished first and second at the First-Round Regional at Hillcrest Golf Course Monday shooting 423 and 424, respectively.
Mason-Northwest Webster's Morgan Byson was the medalist with a 94 while Harris-Lake Park's Lexi Stahly was the runner-up with a 96.
The Mustangs' Sydney Tauber (100) and Jenna Coppock (103) finished third and sixth while Harris-Lake Park's Kenzie Heikens (102) was fifth. Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn's Maddie Bronstad also advanced to Monday's second round with a 104.
AT SIOUX CENTER
Unity Chrisitan and West Lyon advanced to the Second-Round Regional golf tournament by finishing first and second, respectively, shooting 374 and 424 at the Class 2A First-Round Regional at The Ridge in Sioux Center on Monday.
Unity Christian had five of the top six scorers led by medalist Kate Fessler who shot an 88 and teammate Chloe Krommendyk shot a 93 to finish as the runner-up. Justine Malenke recorded a 96 to finish third and Kerri Kroeze had a 99 to take fourth. Laura Beltman also finished in the top eight shooting 99 to secure sixth.
West Lyon's Mia Hoogeveen and Miranda Wieker shot 100 and 101, respectively, to move on. Teammate Grace Bauder carded a 103, Shelby Viereck had a 107, Ellie Whalen shot 110 and Taylor DeJong finished with a 137.
The only golfer to move on not from a team that automatically advanced was Sibley-Ocheyedan's Megan Grimes who took fifth with a 98.
AT IDA GROVE
Alta/Aurelia won the First-Round Regional at Ida Grove Golf and Country Club Monday with a 379 while MVAOCOU also advanced finishing second with a 409. The Rams tied with Greene County for second but won the tiebreaker based on the fifth scorer for the team.
Defending Class 2A medalist Annika Patton of Alta/Aurelia was the medalist with an 80 while Rachel Danielson of Greene County was the runner-up with an 83.
Patton was joined in the top eight by teammate Erin Lockin who finished sixth with a 92 while MVAO's Haylee Halbur shot 90 to take fourth. OA-BCIG had a a pair of golfers advance to Monday's second round in Lauren Schwade who was seventh with a 99, and Corin Bower tied Cherokee's Paityn Hagberg for eighth after carding 100.
Southeast Valley's Delany Conrad finished third with an 89 and East Sac County's Kayla Kraft shot 91 to take fifth.
