SIOUX CITY | Bishop Heelan's Jackson Thompson finished in a tie for fourth overall with a round of 80 to advance to the Class 4A state tournament at Whispering Creek Golf Course Tuesday.

Thompson, who finished behind a trio of Johnston golfers including medalist Nick Pittman who shot a 2-under 70, tied with Dowling's Nick Wegman. Thompson was the runner-up medalist at the MRAC Meet.

Johnston won the team title with a 310 followed by Dowling Catholic with a 332 and Ankeny Centennial with a 340. Those three teams advance to the state tournament. Heelan, the city and MRAC champion, finished fifth with a 355, East was sixth with a 356, North was eighth with a 371 and West was 11th with a 426.

The state tournament will be held at Elmwood Country Club in Marshalltown Friday and Saturday.
