MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa | Bishop Heelan sophomore Jackson Thompson shot a 78 on the second day of the Class 4A state golf tournament to finish in a tie for 20th at Elmwood Country Club on Saturday.

Thompson shot a two-day total of 153, 8-over par, in his first trip to the state tournament. Thompson shot 75 on the first day.

Marshalltown's Nate Vance was the medalist shooting a 1-over 142. He carded an eagle on the first sudden death hole to win the state title. Marshalltown won the team title by 16 shots over Johnston 582-598.
