MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa | Woodbury Central’s Anthony Gallagher medaled by finishing tied for fifth at the Iowa Class 1A state golf tournament at the American Legion Memorial Golf Course here Saturday.
Gallagher competed as an individual and finished with a 36-hole score of 158 (69-79). Gallagher was in second place through 18 holes after carding a 69 in the first round.
Derrick Schorg of Remsen St. Mary’s also competed as an individual and placed tied for 12th with a 36-hole score of 156. After shooting an 81 on Friday, Schorg fired a second-round score of 75.
Boyden-Hull finished fifth in the team standings with a score of 660. Davis Van Roekel finished tied for 19th with a 36-hole score of 161 (84-77). Keaton Van Roekel finished in 24th place (84-79—163) and Marcus Rens finished tied for 25th (86-79—165). Kyle Baartman placed 30th (87-84—171) and Logan Brunsting finished 44th (93-93—186). Tyler Woelber placed 52nd (97-101—198).
FORT DODGE, Iowa | Sheldon’s Tyler Merley medaled by placing fifth at the Iowa Class 2A state golf tournament at Lakeside Golf Course here Saturday.
Merley finished with a 36-hole score of 144 (68-76). Merley was in first place through 18 holes after firing a first-round score of 68. Merley finished sixth in the state tournament last year.
Sheldon placed fourth in the team standings with a score of 608. Sheldon led through 18 holes on Friday with a score of 294. Koby Klatt finished tied for 17th with a 36-hole score of 149 (73-76). Nick Bomgaars placed tied for 27th (77-80—157) and Hunter Lang finished 40th (79-85—164). Phil Cain finished tied for 42nd (84-82—166) and Dominic Seivert placed 60th (76-104—180).
OA-BCIG’s Brandon Schwade competed as an individual and finished tied for sixth with a 36-hole score of 145 (71-74).
LIVERMORE, Iowa | MOC-Floyd Valley’s Tate Arends medaled by finishing eighth and the Dutchmen placed third in the team standings at the Iowa Class 3A state golf tournament here Saturday.
Arends finished with a 36-hole score of 151. Arends was tied for ninth place through 18 holes on Friday with a score of 77, but he shot a 74 on Saturday to move up to eighth. Arends finished fifth last year.
MOC-Floyd Valley finished with a team score of 634. Trent DeHaan finished tied for 14th (79-80—159). Justin Schipper placed tied for 16th (78-82—160) and Charlie Dorn finished tied for 24th (79-85—164). Collin Root finished tied for 41st (89-85—174) and Kyle Christy placed tied for 49th (90-89—179).
MOC-Floyd Valley finished seventh in the team standings last year.
