MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa | The sister-brother combination of Sally Gallagher and Anthony Gallagher from Woodbury Central teamed for a 79 in the Class 1A State Co-ed golf tournament Tuesday at American Legion Course here.
The Gallaghers were one of 13 duos to break 80 and wound up tied for 10th place. Emily Snelling and Thomas Storbeck of Clear Lake won the title with a 72.
Justin Malenke and Logan Visser of Orange City Unity Christian shot 84 while Kate Fessler and Ryan Fedders of Unity carded 84.
Westwood had a pair of teams competing. Makenna Harding and Elijah Lamoureux shot 90 and Syana Schelm and Jacob Miller had a 92.
Sioux City East’s Jayden Kooyman and Jax Hoefling shot 86 in the 2A co-ed meet at Coldwater Golf Course in Ames. East’s Michaela Lyon and Collin Haupt shot 93.
Anne Gradoville and Hank Weresh of West Mes Moines Dowling claimed the 1A title with 68.
VERMILLION TAKES THIRD AT STATE
HARTFORD, S.D. | Vermillion finished third in the South Dakota Class A Girls State Golf Championship, which concluded at Central Valley Golf Course here Tuesday.
The Tanagers shot a two-day total of 741, improving 13 shots from the first to second round (377-364). Canton won the team title with 724 while Lennox was second at 732.
Vermillion’s Kyleigh Moran tied for seventh individually, carding 85-83—168. Alex Carr and Kara Mulheron had identical scores of 93-90—183, tying for 19th. Keely Huska finished 60th with 106-101—207.
Elk Point-Jefferson’s Hannah Van Kirk (107-111) and Sydney Bousquet (121-106) competed individually. Kate Wynja of Sioux Falls Christian was state medalist with 78-78—156, or 12-over-par.
