MASON CITY, Iowa | Zach Jiminez snapped a 1-1 tie with a second-period goal while helping the Mason City Mohawks to a 3-2 Midwest High School Hockey League win over the Sioux City Metros Sunday morning.
Skyler Beller scored both goals for the Metros (4-7-0-1). Beller gave the Metros a 1-0 lead in the first period while his third-period goal marked his fifth multiple-goal game of his season and the 20th of his three-year varsity career.
Beller has scored in all but one game for Coach Dave LeGree’s squad. He has 14 goals and eight assists on the season.
Goaltender Ben Morehead converted 18 of 21 save chances for the Metros.
Sioux City and Mason City dueled to a 1-1 tie in the junior varsity contest. Sam Chadwick scored an empty-net goal in the second period for the JV Metros (2-6-4) while goaltender Blake Beller converted 30 of 31 save chances.
Sioux City’s season continues Saturday at Ames. The varsity game will start at 6:30 p.m. and the JV game will follow at 8:30.
