DES MOINES | Clark Krueger’s hat trick carried the first-place Des Moines Capitals to a 5-1 Midwest High School Hockey League win over the Sioux City Metros Sunday morning at Buccaneer Arena.

Krueger scored the game’s first three goals, two coming in the second period. He also assisted on the first of Joe Krueger’s two third-period goals, helping the Capitals improve their season record to 19-1-2.

Sioux City (13-5) trailed 5-0 before Tanner Frerichs scored his 18th goal of the season with 4:17 left in the game. Frerichs, who paces Coach Dave LeGree’s squad with 44 points, hiked his scoring streak to eight games.

Goaltender Blake Beller (8-3) recorded 38 saves.

The Capitals rallied from a 2-1 deficit to win the junior varsity game 4-2. Sioux City (8-8-2) received first-period goals from Walter Werden and Reece Mcdonald. Goaltender Carter Manthorne (2-2) had 22 saves.
