SIOUX CITY | Tanner Frerichs scored four goals Friday night while leading the Sioux City Metros to a 6-2 Midwest High School Hockey League win over the Omaha Junior Lancers at the IBP Ice Center.
Frerichs, who also delivered an assists on Jacob Hansen’s first-period goal, tallied five points in a game for the third time this season. The senior from East High School now has 13 goals and 16 assists on the season for Coach Dave LeGree’s Metros, who hiked their season record to 10-1.
The Des Moines Capitals also have a 10-1 record for the best mark in the MHSHL.
Omaha trailed 2-1 before Brendan Hill’s game-tying goal, six minutes into the second period. Six minutes later, the Metros then got back-to-back goals, 19 seconds apart from Max Beller and Frerichs that produced a 4-2 lead.
Frerichs also scored the Metros’ last two goals, one in the second period and the other in the third.
Drake Beller and James Page each recorded two assists for a club that was outshot, 33-27. Winning goaltender Carter Manthorne (5-0) had 31 saves.
Omaha won the junior varsity game, 3-2. Sioux City (7-3-0-1) received second-period goals from Dayson Tucker and T.J. Lake while goaltender Blake Beller had 36 saves.
The Metros are idle until this Saturday when they host Lincoln. The varsity game will begin at 3 p.m. and the JV contest will follow at 5.
