SIOUX CITY | Trent Harsma is on fire for the Sioux City Metros.
Harsma picked up two straight 2-goal games during a weekend of Midwest High School Hockey League action at the IBP Ice Center. Harsma had two goals and an assist in Saturday’s 6-1 win over the Quad City Blues, then added two goals and two assists in Sunday’s 6-3 win over the Blues.
Sioux City (4-5-0-1), which also received three goals from Skyler Beller, trailed 2-1 on Sunday morning before Cameron Kramer’s goal, 1:33 into the second period that knotted the game. Two minutes later, Beller snapped the deadlock on a power-goal assisted by Harsma and James Page.
Harsma, who has five goals and 10 assists on the season, scored both of his Sunday goals in the second period. Harsma also assisted on Beller’s first-period goal.
The Metros outshot the Blues 35-28. Goaltender Ben Morehead had 23 saves in 45 minutes while Carter Manthorne had two saves in five minutes.
Saturday afternoon, Harsma scored goals in the first and second periods. Beller had a goal and an assist while Kramer, Page and Connor Sand each added a goal. Manthorne converted 36 of 37 save chances.
Junior varsity teams from Sioux City and Quad City skated to a 3-3 tie on Sunday. The JV Metros (2-5-3), who fell 3-0 on Saturday, received goals Sunday from Sand, Marc Wigger and Walter Werden, while goaltender Blake Beller converted saves on 22 of 25 chances.
Sioux City will continue MHSHL action Saturday at Mason City. The JV game will start at 2 p.m. and the varsity will follow at 4 o’clock.
