SIOUX CITY | Eli Schmal’s goal at the 1:55 mark of overtime gave the Lincoln Junior Stars a 4-3 Midwest High School Hockey League win over the Sioux City Metros Saturday afternoon at the IBP Ice Center.

Sioux City (14-6-2) rallied three times from 1-goal deficits while facing Lincoln for the first time this season. Six minutes after Lincoln’s Zane Schmidt tallied his third goal of the game, Coach Dave LeGree’s squad knotted the game 3-3 when James Page scored his 20th goal of the season with 3:21 remaining in regulation.

Sioux City, which received game-tying goals from Jarret Heyl and Chase Lewison in the first and second periods, respectively, outshot Lincoln 36-26. Goaltender Blake Beller (8-6-2) registered 22 saves.

It was the second straight overtime loss for the Metros. Friday night, Cody Walters’ power-play goal, 55 seconds into overtime, gave Omaha a 2-1 win at Ralston Arena.

Sioux City trailed 1-0 before Connor Sand’s power-play goal tied the game in the third period. Beller had 14 saves in the contest.

No junior varsity score was available.

The Metros dropped Friday’s JV game, 3-1. Alec Nieman scored the team’s lone goal while goaltender Carter Manthorne had 25 saves.

The Metros will host Lincoln today as the weekend series concludes. The varsity game will start at 10 a.m. and the JV game will follow at Noon.
