SIOUX CITY | Nathan Lewandowski’s third-period goal snapped a tie and sparked the Lincoln Jr. Stars to a 4-2 Midwest High School Hockey League win over the Sioux City Metros Sunday morning at the IBP Ice Center.

It was one of two weekend wins for Lincoln, which got an overtime goal from Kean Kontor in Saturday’s 4-3 win over the Metros. Sioux City slipped into last place in the West Division following Sunday’s defeat.

Trent Harsma gave the Metros a 2-1 first-period lead in Saturday afternoon’s game. Lincoln battled back with two consecutive goals from Skye Matthew-Harnly, but Coach Dave LeGree’s Metros sent the game into overtime on James Page’s third-period goal to knot the score 3-3.

Sioux City lost despite a 39-27 shots-on-goal advantage. Page and Skyler Beller each recorded a goal and an assist while Tanner Frerichs dealt two assists.

Goaltender Ben Morehead had 23 saves in Sioux City’s first overtime loss of the season.

Sunday morning, Sioux City (7-8-1-1) trailed 2-0 before second-period goals from Tanner Frerichs and Page. Lincoln, second in the West Division with an 11-8 record, outshot the Metros 45-19.

Frerichs, who also assisted on Page’s goal, hiked his scoring streak to five games. Carter Manthorne had 41 saves.

Brady Glissman scored two goals while leading the junior varsity Metros to Saturday’s 3-2 win. Sam Holzrichter also scored a goal while Manthorne had 25 saves.

Holzrichter scored two goals in Sunday’s 4-2 victory. Brock Glissman had a goal and an assist while Connor Sand also scored a goal. Blake Beller had 30 saves.

Sioux City will play Saturday and Sunday at Waterloo as MHSHL action continues.
