SIOUX CITY | Blake Beller recorded his second shutout of the season Sunday morning, as the Sioux City Metros completed a weekend sweep with an 8-0 win over the Lincoln Junior Stars during Midwest High School Hockey League action at the IBP Ice Center.

Beller stopped each of the 14 shots he faced for Coach Dave LeGree’s team, which opened the weekend with Saturday’s 5-2 win over Lincoln. Beller, who has played between the pipes in each of Sioux City’s games, has a 12-1-1 record while improving his goals-against-average to 1.65 and his save percentage to .922.

Currently tied with Kansas City for second place in the MHSHL standings at 25 points, Sioux City has allowed the league’s fewest goals (23). Connor Sand posted his third multi-goal game of the season, recording two goals and two assists for a team that has won each of their last eight games.

Sand, who has 12 goals and 11 assists on the season, took part in the squad’s first two goals of the game. Sand and James Page assisted on a first-period goal from Max Beller, while Sand took advantage of a Drake Beller assist to give the Metros a 2-0 lead at the 4:47 mark of the second period.

Sioux City also received second-period goals from Page, Drake Beller and Reece Mcdonald. Third-period goals came from Sand, Grant Newman and Cale Bricker.

Page and Drake Beller each supplied one goal and three assists for a team that outshot Lincoln 49-14. Mcdonald and Max Beller each provided one goal and one assist while Walter Werden dished two assists.

Page posted a hat trick in Saturday’s victory. The first of his three goals snapped a 2-2 tie with 3:23 left in the second period, while he added goals in the final frame to collect his second 3-goal game of the season.

Sioux City tied the game at a goal apiece on Drake Beller’s unassisted goal with 4:54 left in the first period. Nicholas Bradshaw snapped the tie at the 5:13 mark of the second period.

Newman, Sand and Werden each recorded two assists as the Metros outshot the Junior Stars 27-17. Drake Beller had one goal and one assist while Blake Beller converted 15 of 17 saves.

Sioux City’s junior varsity blanked Lincoln 2-0 on Saturday, then lost a 2-1 shootout on Sunday.

Chander Pithan and Alec Nieman each scored goals in Saturday’s triumph. Collin Patrick had 25 saves.

Bradshaw forced a 1-all tie in the second period Sunday, aided by assists from Dayson Tucker and Colby Neiman. Patrick had 29 saves for a squad that is now 7-5-2 on the season.

Sioux City will play a weekend series at Ames on Saturday and Sunday.
