SIOUX CITY | Make that 13 wins in a row for the Sioux City Metros.
Blake Beller posted his fourth shutout of season Saturday afternoon, stopping each of the 13 shots he faced while leading the Metros to a 2-0 Midwest High School Hockey League win over the Quad City Blues at the IBP Ice Center.
Beller has played every minute of every game this season for the MHSHL leaders, compiling an outstanding 17-1-1 record for Coach Dave LeGree’s Metros. Beller improved his goals-against average to 1.47 and his save percentage to .925, both career-high totals in his third varsity season.
Drake Beller and James Page took part in both Sioux City goals.
Drake Beller, the Metros’ leading scorer on the season with 46 points (20 goals, 26 assists), extended his scoring streak to seven games when he scored seven seconds into the second period. Linemates Page and Connor Sand each assisted on the goal.
Page turned in his 12th multiple-point game of the season when he scored a goal at the 3:47 mark of the third period. Assisting Page (20 goals, 17 assists) were Drake Beller and defenseman Grant Newman.
The Metros junior varsity improved their record to 11-5-3 following a 3-1 victory. Coming through with second-period goals were Alec Nieman, Taylor Frerichs and Joe Erickson.
Winning goaltender Will Stokes (6-3-3) converted 19 of 20 save attempts.
The same two teams will conclude the series today at the IBP Ice Center. Varsity action begins at 10 a.m. and the JV game will follow at noon.
