CEDAR RAPIDS | The Sioux City Metros are on a roll.
The Metros scored four goals in the second period Saturday night while clipping Cedar Rapids 7-2 during Midwest High School Hockey League action at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Coach Dave LeGree's Metros completed the weekend sweep with Sunday morning's 5-3 triumph.
Sioux City (11-10-1-1), now in third place in the MHSHL's West Division, enters Thursday night's home game against Omaha having won four of its last six games.
Skyler Beller and Trent Harsma each recorded two goals and two assists in Saturday's win.
Harsma scored a first-period goal. He provided two second-period points with a goal and an assist on Beller’s power-play goal.
Sioux City, which scored the game’s first five goals, also got second-period goals from Brandon Swanson and James Page.
Beller and Logan Visser scored third-period goals for a squad that posted a 37-29 shots on goal advantage. Winning goaltender Ben Morehead had 27 assists.
Harsma, Page and Jarett Heyl each recorded a goal and an assist in Sunday's victory.
Beller and Connor Sand scored first-period goals for the Metros while Heyl's goal gave Sioux City a 3-0 lead. Cedar Rapids got second-period goals from Ian McKay to pull within 3-2, but Harsma and Page tallied third-period goals to clinch the victory.
Morehead recorded 23 saves.
Cedar Rapids posted a 2-1 junior varsity victory on Saturday night. Christen Peterson scored a third-period goal for Sioux City while goaltender Blake Beller had 17 saves.
Sioux City's junior varsity slipped to 7-10-6 on the season following Sunday's 2-0 loss. Beller had 19 saves.
Action at the IBP Ice Center Thursday night will begin with the 6 o'clock varsity game. The JV game will follow at 8 p.m.
Sioux City will then host Kansas City on Saturday and Sunday.
