SIOUX CITY | There are no more undefeated teams in the Midwest High School Hockey League, courtesy of the Sioux City Metros.
Chase Lewison scored two goals Saturday afternoon as the Metros rallied for a 5-3 victory over the previously-undefeated Kansas City Jets at the IBP Ice Center. It was the fifth straight triumph for Coach Dave LeGree’s Metros while the Jets saw a 12-game winning streak that started the season come to an end.
Sioux City (9-1-1), which battled back from a 2-0 first-period deficit, scored the most goals in a game played against Kansas City this season. Peyton Roy scored the game’s first goal, four minutes into the first period, while teammate Ian Jones scored nine minutes later.
Drake Beller took part in both Sioux City goals late in the first period to tie the contest. The Metros’ scoring leader with 25 points, Beller (9 goals, 16 assists) assisted on a James Page shorthanded goal, then tied the game when he scored off a Connor Sand assist with 3:02 remaining until the first intermission.
Lewison snapped the tie when he scored two minutes into the second period, then added another goal a minute and 48 seconds later. It was the third 2-goal game of the season for Lewison, who enters Sunday morning’s game against the Jets with seven goals and two assists.
Sand completed a 2-point game with a third-period goal for Sioux City, which boasted a 53-21 shots on goal advantage. Beller had a goal and two assists while Page had a goal and an assist.
Winning goaltender Blake Beller (9-1-1) had 18 saves.
Kansas City won the junior varsity game, 3-2 in a shootout. Sioux City (6-4-1) received goals from Christen Peterson and Taylor Frerichs. Goaltender Will Stokes had 18 saves.
The varsity game between the Metros and Kansas City will start at 10 a.m. today. The JV game is slated for a noon start.
