SIOUX CITY -- The Sioux City North girls opened their 2018 season with a 3-1 win over South Sioux City on Tuesday in Sioux City.
North’s Taylor Kelley scored the lone goal of the first half in the 18th minute off an assist from Ana Deluna. Mia Norton scored in the 45th minute off another assist from Deluna to give the Stars a 2-0 lead.
South Sioux’s Zandria De lao scored in the 60th minute off a Cristal Delatorre assist to trim the score to 2-1. Brianna Marchand then scored an insurance goal for North off an assist from Gwen Patterson in the 72nd minute.
Goalkeeper Sedrena Phillips recorded 12 saves for North while Sydney Comstock notched 11 for South Sioux.
North hosts Glenwood on Monday while South Sioux plays at Sioux City West on Thursday.
MOC-FLOYD VALLEY 2, SERGEANT BLUFF-LUTON 1: The MOC-Floyd Valley girls soccer team downed Sergeant Bluff-Luton 2-1 on Tuesday in Sergeant Bluff.
Abby Wisecup scored the lone goal for SB-L in the 18th minute, unassisted.
The Warriors play next at No. 9 (A) Bishop Heelan on Friday.
SERGEANT BLUFF-LUTON 2, MOC-FLOYD VALLEY 1: Ty Shoulders had one goal and one assist as the Sergeant Bluff-Luton boys soccer team defeated MOC-Floyd Valley 2-1 on Tuesday in Orange City, Iowa.
Jose Gonzalez scored in the second minute, unassisted, to give MOC-Floyd Valley (1-1) and early 1-0 lead. Cole Garrett tied the game at 1-all in the eighth minute off an assist from Shoulders. Shoulders then scored the go-ahead goal in the 63rd minute off an assist from Drew Marksbury.
Goalkeeper Brennan Sitzmann recorded nine saves for SB-L.
The Warriors host Denison-Schleswig on Monday.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN 4, NORTH 0: Hunter Hendrix scored two goals as the Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln boys soccer team defeated Sioux City North 4-0 on Tuesday in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
Caleb Fitch and Connor Vargas both had one goal for Abraham Lincoln (1-1).
Goalkeeper Anthony Tran recorded seven saves for North (0-1).
North hosts Sioux City East on Thursday.
DENISON-SCHLESWIG 2, WEST 1: The Monarchs scored twice in the first 15 minutes to take the lead and held on to clip the Wolverines in boys soccer action in Denison, Iowa Tuesday evening.
West got its goal with 12 minutes left in the opening half when Javier Fuentes converted a pass from Jose Ortega for the score. The Wolverines (1-2) had a 12-5 edge in shots but could not find the equalizer. Erik Jaime and Diego Pizano scored goals for the Monarchs, now 3-0.
The Wolverines are back in action this Saturday in Des Moines facing Davenport North and Pella.
