FORT DODGE, Iowa | North’s girls tennis team was unable to qualify athletes for the Class 2A state meet following play at Wednesday’s regional singles and doubles qualifying tournament in Fort Dodge.
North’s Divine Lawson and Kari Swanson took third in doubles. The Stars’ duo defeated Fort Dodge’s Kathryn Cochrane and Emma Bloom 6-4, 6-0 for third place.
Kelly Nguyen of North finished fourth in singles.
First and second-place finishers in both singles and doubles advance to the state tournament. Freshman Arundee Fernando of Ames won the singles title with a 6-3, 6-3 decision over Fort Dodge’s Beth Murman.
Ames took first and second in doubles. The Little Cyclones’ Caitlyn Hanulikoea and Chloe Wilson defeated teammates Lauren Couves and Shria Chug 6-2, 6-0 for the title.
North will host Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln at 9 a.m. in a second-round Class 2A team tournament match.
