BRIEFLY: Dakota Valley begins its bid for a sixth straight state tournament appearance. The second-ranked Panthers, last year's state champs, face Dakota XII rival Beresford with a berth in the Sweet 16 on the line. Twin sisters Meredith and Elizabeth Lammers led the powerful offensive attack for the Panthers with 278 and 269 kills, respectively. Ally Beresford has 769 assists while Alyssa Johnson has 303 digs to pace the defense. Hannah Nelson had 10 kills as Beresford advanced with a sweep over Lennox.

Tea Area (14-13) at Elk Point-Jefferson (16-11)

WHEN/WHERE: 7 p.m., Elk Point

BRIEFLY: Elk Point-Jefferson seeks a berth into the Sweet 16 for the second straight season. The Huskies posted a three-game sweep over Canton and now face Dakota XII rival Tea Area, who swept Vermillion in the opening round. Carlie Corder had eight kills while Kenna Curry and Riley Donnelly chipped in five apiece in EP-J's win over Canton. Karly Marx contributed 21 assists and 11 digs while Addison Ludwig led the defense with 21 digs.
