SIOUX CITY | Kory Van Oort posted his 100th career victory Monday night, part of a performance when he collected two pins for a West Sioux squad that thumped West 72-6 and edged Westwood 40-39 at West High School.
A junior who’s currently ranked second among Class 1A 145-pound weight class wrestlers by The Predicament, Van Oort was last season’s 1A state tournament runner-up at 145. Competing at 152 on Monday, Van Oort pinned West’s Riliegh Belt in 1:56, then pinned Westwood’s Braulio Munoz in 44 seconds.
Last season’s 1A 106-pound state champ, Adam Allard, competed at 120 to pin West’s Aydin Dicks in 31 seconds. Allard then pinned Westwood 126-pounder Brady Brown in 45 seconds.
The No. 7 Falcons also received two pins from Seth Salker (138), Brandon Schuller (145), Trevor Schuller (170) and Darlyn Marquez (285), who incidentally is ranked 10th.
West Sioux and Westwood were tied at 39 when the match ended. The Falcons won the meet based on the criteria of winning the most first points.
Westwood received two pins each from Brennan Brown (120), Zach Adams (182) and Dillon LaBrune (220).
West 106-pounder Thomas Ouellette opened the double-dual by pinning West Sioux’s Luis Ramirez in two minutes, then pinned Westwood’s Colton Choquette in 1:30.
