SIOUX CITY | Western Conference leading Fargo scored twice in the second period to take a 3-1 lead then held off Sioux City late to log a 4-2 win in a United States Hockey League game played at the Tyson Events Center Saturday evening.
The win helped the Force improve to 9-3-2 (20 points) and hold at least a two-point lead over second-place Tri-City.
The teams traded unassisted goals in the opening period for a 1-1 tie. Sammy Steele got Fargo ahead 9:38 into the game but Sioux City's Matthew Miller scored his first of the season to tie things up at 16:25.
Fargo got a 3-1 lead after two periods thanks to second-period goals from Grant Hebert and William Fallstorm. Hebert is currently third in the USHL with 15 points (6 goals and 9 assists) while teammate Jacob Schmidt-Svejstrup is second with 16 points after a pair of assists Saturday. Schmidt-Svejstrup, a Copenhagen, Denmark, import who has signed with the University of Maine, leads the league with a dozen goals.
Dorian Dawson got his first goal as a Musketeers at 8:34 of the third period to pull Sioux City within 3-2. Sampo Ranta and Parker Ford had assists on the score.
Fargo iced the game on an empty-net goal with 17 seconds left in regulation.
Sioux City (3-6-2, 8 points) is back at home Friday when it takes on Madison.
